What is an Ayurvedic Consultation Like?

In a nutshell: an Ayurvedic consultation is a conversation.

We’ll have about 90 minutes together, which gives us plenty of time to talk about what’s been going on and get a good picture of your health and your life.

I’ll ask you a lot of questions.

We’ll talk about your health history, digestion, sleep, stress, energy, appetite, food, daily routines, and other things that help me understand the bigger picture.

And yes, we’re going to talk about poop. 😂

Ayurveda pays close attention to digestion and elimination, so I’ll probably ask more questions about your bathroom habits than you’re used to. It might feel a little strange at first, but I promise—it’s completely normal around here.

Some of my questions may even seem unrelated to the reason you came in. That’s because Ayurveda doesn’t look at one symptom in isolation. All those little details help me understand what may be connected and where we might want to begin.

You don’t need to know anything about Ayurveda.

You don’t need to know your dosha (or even what that is), understand Sanskrit, or have an Ayurvedic routine already in place. I’ll explain things as we go, and you can ask questions anytime.

And please don’t clean up your life for me.

I want to know what your life is actually like—what you really eat, how you really sleep, what your days look like, what feels easy, and what absolutely does not.

If you occasionally eat cereal over the sink at 10pm, tell me about it. 😄

I’m not here to judge what you’re doing. I just need to understand you well enough that the recommendations we make can work in your real life.

You don’t have to remember everything.

Before we meet, you’ll fill out an intake form that gives me a head start on your health history and what’s bringing you in. I’ll review it before our appointment, and then we’ll fill in the whole picture together during our conversation.

After we meet, my work continues.

Once we say goodbye, I’ll spend time reviewing everything we discussed, completing my Ayurvedic assessment, and putting together your personalized plan.

Rather than giving you everything we could possibly work on, I’ll prioritize what is most important now so you have a clear place to begin and a doable path forward.

Depending on what you need, your plan might include food or eating habits, daily routines and lifestyle practices, Ayurvedic herbs or formulations, movement or breathing practices, or other Ayurvedic recommendations specific to you.

Then you give it some time.

You’ll have about five weeks to try your recommendations and notice how your body responds. If questions come up along the way, I’m just an email away.

Then we’ll meet for your follow-up to talk about what’s changed, what’s working, what’s been challenging, and what makes sense from there.

A few practical things

Consultations are about 90 minutes and can take place virtually via Google Meet or in person in Indianapolis.

After booking, you’ll receive everything you need to get ready for our time together, including your intake form and meeting details.
