5 Signs Your Digestion Is Off (And What to Do About It)
Raise your hand if your tummy gets out of whack when you travel. It’s common, right?
We eat at restaurants more, eat at unusual times, and usually eat a little more than we would at home.
When I got back from traveling a couple weeks ago, my tummy let me know it was not happy with my choices. It speaks to me in gurgle language.
Since practicing Ayurveda, I am now fluent in gurgle. And my tummy was telling me to get back on track, lady!
I’ve learned to listen and take care of these things — stat! Even small digestive issues are to be heeded, because they are often the starting point for bigger imbalances down the line.
Here are some clear signs your digestion is trying to get your attention:
– your stomach is speaking gurgle: noisier than usual — bubbling, shifting, squealing (super fun during client meetings, right?)
– after meals, you feel full longer than you expect to
– your appetite is not very strong — you can skip meals easily
– you notice bloating, gas or a little heaviness through the day
– you feel tired after eating
There can even a bit of mental fog layered in — the kind that makes it harder to focus, or to access ideas the way you normally can. This is no good!
Sometimes the signals are loud and clear. Other times they’re easy to miss unless you’re paying attention.
In Ayurveda, we don’t wait until things get intense. We work with what’s showing up early, while it’s still easy to shift.
So in my case, I didn’t need to overhaul anything. I just went back to a few basics — warm, simple meals at regular times, ginger tea first thing in the morning, and laying off snacks between meals unless I was truly hungry. I also added in an Ayurvedic herb called Triphala that helps support digestion.
That was enough to turn things around.
Most of us weren’t taught to recognize these early signals, so we tend to miss them — and that window where things are easier to correct. Instead, we wait until the body is shouting, and at that point it takes more effort to bring things back into balance.
A big part of what I do in sessions is helping people notice these patterns sooner, and understand what their body is asking for before things feel overwhelming.

Or just email me and tell me what you’ve been noticing — I always like hearing what’s going on in your world.
Warmly, Penny
