Yoga & Meditative Sound Bath Journey with Laura Spriggs Thompson
Sound is a powerful phenomenon. Think about how some sounds and music calm you while others uplift you, and certain sounds and music may irritate you. Sound can impact our emotions, thoughts, and wellbeing.
Sound baths incorporate sounds from instruments such as crystal singing bowls, Himalayan metal bowls, gongs, drums, chimes, voice and more to create an immersive meditative experience.
Participants are guided to deeper states of relaxation through a soundscape of tones and vibrations, inviting a sense of harmonious balance within. Sound baths may help to regulate the nervous system, promote relaxation and stress relief, provide pain relief, improve sleep quality, and positively impact overall quality of life.
During this session, Laura will guide you through centering, breathwork, and gentle movement before transitioning into the meditative sound bath journey. Participants are invited to lie down on a mat to relax and receive the sounds but can remain seated if preferred.
No experience is necessary! While sound baths are generally considered safe for most people, those with epilepsy, concussion, severe mental health conditions, and sensitive hearing should consult a healthcare professional beforehand.
“Take a music bath once or twice a week for a few seasons. You will find it is to the soul what a water bath is to the body.” – Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.
Please note: The studio is located upstairs and may be difficult to access for those with mobility challenges.
What to bring: Bring a yoga mat if you have one. If not, there are a few at the studio you can borrow. There are also some props at the studio you can use to support yourself comfortably during the practice. However, if you would like your own props or to have additional props (e.g. an extra blanket or eye pillow), feel free to bring them. You may also like to bring water.
What to wear: We will do some gentle movement, but much of the class will be seated or lying down, so dress comfortably. You may find layers helpful as the body tends to cool when at rest.
